A group of cockroaches was found crawling inside a man’s right ear after he complained of a “sharp pain” in it while sleeping.
The man, identified as Lv, sought help at the Sanhe Hospital in Huiyang, China, after his family members found a large cockroach inside his ear
The family found the insect by shining a torch into the 24-year-old’s ear canal to find the reason behind his pain. However, ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist Zhong Yijin revealed that in addition to the one already found, he saw more than 10 cockroach babies inside the man’s ear.
“They were already running around, ” he was quoted as saying.
Dr. Yijin removed the baby insects, including their larger mother, from Mr. Lv’s ear using a pair of tweezers. As per report, the newly-hatched insects were of the German cockroach species Blattella germanica.
Following the procedure, Lv sustained minor injuries to his right ear canal. He was discharged on the same day and prescribed with ointment for his ear.
Others who attended to the patient told local media outlets that he had attracted the insects due to his habit of leaving unfinished food packets near his bed. They advise that household hygiene, such as disinfecting drains and sewers, can help prevent the spread of cockroaches.

If you would like to avoid cockroaches getting into your home, there are several steps you can take. Removing clutter, removing water sources, and eliminating food sources are just a few. But the number one, most effective thing you can do to avoid having roaches invade is to partner with a professional pest control company. If you need assistance with cockroaches or any other household pest, reach out to Karthick Pest Control today. Why You Realy Need Regular Pest Control..!

A tidy, well-kept house is always pest free, right? Not necessarily. Pests can be attracted to homes for various reasons, many of which have nothing to do with cleanliness. Some common home invaders make it very obvious that they are there, while generations of others may hide away without a peep. There are many reasons why regular pest control is necessary for every home owner to consider.

"Do-it-Yourself" Isn't Always Doing Enough

Many do-it-yourself treatments appear to get the job done, when in reality they only attack the tip of the iceberg. Most store-bought and home remedies are only capable of taking care of what you see on the surface. More often than not, the source of your infestation is hidden away. That's why it is important to contact a pest control professional at the first sign of a home invasion. Trained to stop an infestation at its source, the professionals here at Karthick Pest Control know just what to look for, and how to get rid of it for good.

Pests Pose Real Health Threats
Some of the most common pests, such as rodents, ticks, and mosquitoes, are capable of transferring terrible diseases. Mice and rats can carry Hantavirus, which can be fatal if passed on to a human. Ticks carry Lyme disease, which comes with flu-like symptoms. Mosquitoes are capable of carrying a host of different illnesses, from the West Nile Virus to Zika. It is impossible to know if a pest is carrying a disease or not, which is why it is best to err on the side of caution.

Damage to Property and Belongings

Many home-invading pests find their way into your home in the first place because they have found a source of food. Wood-faring bugs, such as termites and carpenter ants, are capable of tearing your home apart. They hide within the walls, so they often cause a lot of damage before anyone even notices they are there. Other pests, such as carpet beetles are attracted to organic fibers, and therefore love to munch on your belongings. Couches, clothing, blankets, and towels are just some of the items at risk for damage. Our pest control professionals are trained to survey the area in and around your home, to keep pests that you might not even be aware of under control.

Keep Food Safe & Healthy

Pest control is necessary in both residential and commercial settings, especially when it comes to food. Businesses in the food service industry often deal with scrap-eating pests, such as cockroaches and rodents. In homes, pests such as odorous house ants and indianmeal moths will find their way into your pantry, and make a meal out of your favorite snacks. Further still, many pests, such as aphids, can stop the proper growth of fruits and vegetables in your garden. Many of the aforementioned pests carry diseases, or at the very least will contaminate your food by living in it. The easiest way to keep your food safe from pests is to contact your local pest control provider.

Stress-Free Living
One thing is for certain; a pest free home is a happy home. Even the sign of the tiniest unwanted creature can cause a huge headache. Our most basic pest control plan includes year-round bi-monthly inspections, and both indoor and outdoor treatments to stop any and all pests. Just give us a call, and we'll handle the rest.

Tackling termites away from Home

Termites are in fact more closely related to cockroaches and have been on earth for over 250 million years. They feed on dead plants and trees as well as dead parts of living trees, including wood and wood in the soil.

Their ability to work unnoticed can lead you to be off your guard, but termites have a proven reputation for the vast devastation they are capable of causing in households. There is a very methodical manner in which termites go about their business, starting from the formation of colonies. And once a termite infestation has been identified, it can be difficult to determine how long the colony has been established in the home.

Classified into three groups — Damp wood Termites, Dry wood Termites and Subterranean Termites — they are capable of causing damage worth billions of dollars each year by eating away at the wood in homes, from roofs down to foundations.

The most destructive of the three are the Subterranean Termites who are capable of severely damaging timbers within a house in just three months. Subterranean Termites form their homes in the soil where they are structured into colonies comprising king, queen, workers and soldiers. Through tunnel, they look for a food source and the moment they have access, there is no limit to the scale of damage they are capable of causing.

Termites thrive in warm, moist and dark areas and a sight you would have witnessed during the monsoons is that of winged termites swarming around windows and doors. They are highly attracted to bulbs and other sources of light and are called reproductive termites. Once a colony has matured, these reproductive termites fly out, discard their wings and after mating, they identify a new breeding site with the specific aim of creating another colony. In this organised manner, they spread infestations in numerous locations.

Anti-termite solutions
Usage of anti-termite treatment can help eradicate termite infestation. It is also a good preventive measure to regularly check for mud tunnels or other signs of possible activity such as hollow timber or damp walls. Also, having your home undergo a termite inspection is one of the best preventive measures against large-scale termite infestation.

If you come across a termite colony, never attempt to get rid of it yourself as termites have the ability to quickly relocate to some other part of your home. It is best to contact a experienced pest controller immediately in order to adopt the best form of eradication.
It is important that such areas are pre-treated with sufficient quantity of an anti-termite solution so that termite attacks are prevented.

Ducks & Hens to fight House flies in Chennai...!

Chennai Corporation to raise ducks, hens to fight house flies

The Chennai Corporation is planning to raise select hen and duck breeds at decentralised waste processing centres to control houseflies. Decaying material in the decentralised waste processing centres have led to a rise in houseflies in the vicinity, affecting residents. At a recent meeting, civic officials in the 15 zones have been directed to find suitable breeds of the birds to control houseflies in areas where residents report such problems. “We will identify suitable breeds of duck shortly,” said an official.

In a bid to close the city's dumpyards in Perungudi and Kodungaiyur by December 2020, the Chennai Corporation has kicked off a project to decentralise waste processing in all the 200 wards in 426 sq km of the city. However, the civic body has started receiving complaints from residents in some of the 2,258 localities where decentralised waste processing has already begun. “As many as 5,535 waste processing plants have been set up with a capacity of 653 tonnes of waste in the 2,258 localities. The city generates 5,300 tonnes of waste every day,” said an official.

Official sources said houseflies have increased only in areas that use huge quantities of food waste for composting when compared to areas that compost garden waste. At least 50% of the decentralised waste processing facilities predominantly use food waste for composting.

Ornithologist Arul Velan said raising certain breed of duck to control flies may not help in achieving desired results in a city like Chennai. “Many farmers in Karur and Namakkal do it. Indian runner duck is good. It is well adapted to our areas. But it may work only if the area is limited,” said Mr. Arul Velan.

“Biological control is good. Muscovy duck is also good at controlling flies. But it may not be successful in urban areas like Chennai,” said Mr. Velan. “Hen breeds may not be of much use in controlling flies,” said Mr. Velan. Egmore MLA K.S. Ravichandran said the civic body should focus more on improving manpower for processing instead of biological control of pests.

Corporation officials said the plan to stop dumping of waste in Perungudi and Kodungaiyur by December 2020 could be implemented only after all biodegradable waste is processed onsite.

Should You Worry About Ticks and Mosquitoes in Winter?

When and how to protect yourself from biting pests during the coldest months of the year

With winter weather already upon us, you might have decided to store your insect repellent in the back of the closet until next spring. Well, you might want to dig it back out. Some species of ticks can be active during winter. And if you live in a warm enough area that goes for mosquitoes, too.

The Ticks That Are Active in Winter
 Image result for ticks
In general, the species of ticks that transmit diseases to humans tend to become inactive during the winter. The combination of cold weather and shorter days triggers a kind of hibernation, known as diapause.

The reason is that some of the adult blacklegged ticks may not have found a meal before the end of the fall. Because the female adults need to feed in order to lay eggs in the spring, those that haven’t found a meal don’t go fully dormant during the winter. Instead, they can become active whenever the temperature rises above freezing (to about 35° F) and when there’s no snow on the ground

And blacklegged ticks may carry not only Lyme disease but also a “whole laundry list” of other pathogens, including anaplasmosis, babesiosis, the deadly Powassan virus, and more.

What About Mosquitoes in Winter?

 Image result for mosquitoes
In the fall of 2019, you may have heard reports of a surprisingly high number of human cases of  dengue, a mosquito-borne disease. Dengue cases have risen in the national capital, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease this year in the city to over 1,700, according to a municipal report released on Monday.

Residents rent out rooftops to traders to store automobile parts and this is causing rainwater to stagnate in these spaces turning them into a breeding ground for mosquitoes

Protect Yourself From Insects in Winter

Even though blacklegged ticks bite during winter, the risk of contracting an illness is lower than it is during the peak seasons for these pests, in the spring and summer. Still, it’s important to take precautions against the ticks that are out looking for a winter meal.

“The nice thing about winter is you tend to wear more clothing anyway,” which can help keep ticks away from your skin. You can also spray your boots and clothes with an insect repellent, or treat your house and surroundings with pestcontrol service, which can disable or kill ticks on contact.

Don’t forget to keep your pets protected as well, with a vet-recommended anti-tick medication. If you’re in an area where mosquitoes are still active during winter, it’s a good idea to call pest control technician when you might be exposed to them—even though the risk is low. Karthick Pest Control advises residents to keep up with mosquito-control measures, including getting rid of standing water on their properties, throughout the entire year.
